While certainly no masterpiece, I’d recommend watching Jeff Erbach’s The Nature of Nicholas over many more conventional and popular gay dramas featuring kids and teenagers. It’s a kind of anti-coming-out tale with a cool style reminiscent of Todd Haynes’ Safe. It’s lingered in my mind years later. Monsters on the edge of perception (and repression) can become real.
