The Lost Language of Cranes is a 1991 British made-for-television drama film directed by Nigel Finch. It was adapted for television by Sean Mathias, based on the 1986 novel of the same name by David Leavitt. The film was produced by the BBC for their Screen Two series, and premiered on 9 February 1992. It stars Brian CoxEileen AtkinsAngus MacfadyenCorey ParkerCathy TysonJohn SchlesingerRené AuberjonoisBen Daniels and Nigel Whitmey. Cox was nominated for a British Academy Television Award for Best Actor.[1] The film was shown in the United States on PBS on 24 June 1992 as part of Great Performances.

This streamer is apparently the broadcast version shown in the United States, which has no frontal nudity, alas.

The Lost Language of Cranes has a user rating of 7.7 from IMDb.

I enjoyed it, particularly the performances from Cox and Angus Macfadyen, but some of the dialogue was bookish and unbelievable.
